First Four PowerTec EV Charging Microgrids for The NRMA

PowerTec EV Charging Microgrids are playing a crucial role in the future of sustainable mobility. Following the completion of the first four Battery Energy Storage system (BESS)-buffered EV charging stations in the recent phase of The NRMA‘s charger rollout, we are sharing some impressions of the new sites.

A PowerTec PaDECS® Microgrid Control system coordinates each microgrid. It integrates a PowerTec PowerCache® system-strength-providing BESS with various protection systems. Depending on the site, microgrid control includes an Electric Vehicle charge management and on-site solar generation. Together, these technologies demonstrate how PowerTec EV Charging Microgrids provide both resilience and flexibility for growing EV demand.

At sites where EV chargers are connected to a sub-distribution board, the PaDECS® microgrid Edge Control system automatically dispatches the battery and, if required, curtails chargers in a way that ensures that both the main and sub-distribution feeders are always optimally utilised without being overloaded.

The systems maintain an unrestricted EV user experience, even when all chargers are in use with large load variations.
